Our History
In the mid 1980s, Marcus made the life changing decision to return from working in New Zealand and settle down in South West Scotland on 500 acres of his family farm.
Inspired by the farming philosophies he and his wife Kate, a kiwi, had experienced during their time living and working in New Zealand, they decided to implement an innovative, low-input NZ sheep system in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway.
The Maxwells imported 40 gimmers and four shearling rams from the Marshall Romney Development Group in
New Zealand and Viewfield Romneys was born!

Our System
The business has certainly come a long way since those early days. We now run more than 2,800 breeding ewes and 1,000 hoggets across 2,500 acres in the Glenkens, as well as rams that we put to our own flock and a number of additional rams that are available for sale.
The farm also has a herd of 100 traditional Luing cattle.
Over the years we have improved the efficiency of our farming production by introducing time management processes and upgrading our infrastructure, as well as working with forward-thinking local contractors. This enables us to focus on the core aspects of the farm.
